Frequently Asked Questions

Medicare Plans FAQ

  • What types of Medicare plans do you help with?

At Midwest Division, we help you compare and choose among Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans, Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans, and Medicare Part D prescription drug plans.

  • When can I enroll in a Medicare plan?

Your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) generally begins three months before you turn 65, includes the month you turn 65, and continues for three months after — six months total. After that, you may change plans during Annual Election Periods (AEP) or other qualifying special enrollment periods.

  • Does Medicare cover everything?

No — Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) covers many hospital and medical services, but there are deductibles, coinsurance and gaps. We help you understand the out-of-pocket risks and look at options to fill those gaps.

  • What is a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan?Title or Question

A Medicare Advantage plan is a bundled plan (offered by private insurers) that replaces Original Medicare and often includes additional benefits (e.g., vision, dental, wellness) and sometimes a cap on out-of-pocket costs.

  • What is Medicare Supplement (Medigap) insurance?

Medigap is a private-insurance policy that works with Original Medicare to help pay for the "gaps" — like copays, coinsurance and deductibles. If you want more predictable costs, a Medigap policy may be the way to go.

  • How much will my Medicare plan cost?

Costs vary widely based on plan type, location (we serve Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska), your health, and whether you take advantage of low-income subsidies. At Midwest Division, we help you compare premiums, deductibles, copays/coinsurance, and other costs so you can make an informed decision.

  • Can I change my Medicare plan once I pick one?

Yes — you typically have opportunities: Annual Election Period (Oct 15 – Dec 7 each year) to switch Medicare Advantage or Part D. Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment (Jan 1 – Mar 31) if you're already in a Medicare Advantage plan and want to switch. Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs) if you qualify (moving, dual eligibility, etc.).

  • Do you provide help for prescription drug coverage (Part D)?

Absolutely. Prescription drug coverage is a key piece of the Medicare puzzle. We help you evaluate drug plans (Part D) so your medications are covered at best cost. The official handbook notes that Part D out-of-pocket caps and benefit changes occur regularly.

  • How do I know if I need help selecting a plan?

If you feel overwhelmed by the options, want clear answers, live in Iowa/North Dakota/South Dakota/Nebraska (our service area) — then yes, it's wise to consult with a broker like Midwest Division. We simplify the process, compare options for you, and help you move forward confidently.

  • Why should I choose Midwest Division Insurance Agency for Medicare help?

Because we're a family-owned, locally-rooted agency that treats you like family. We focus exclusively on serving seniors in our region and take the time to understand you — not just sell a plan. From our website: "solutions built to fit real lives, not just policies on paper."

Final Expense Life Insurance FAQs

  • What is Final Expense Life Insurance?

Final Expense (also known as burial or funeral insurance) is a type of permanent life insurance (often whole-life) that is designed specifically to cover end-of-life costs — funeral, burial, outstanding medical bills, personal debts, etc.

  • How is Final Expense different from regular life insurance?

Although it uses life insurance, Final Expense policies typically: Are lower face amounts (smaller benefit), often no medical exam required (just health questions), premiums are usually fixed and benefits paid when you pass (as long as premiums are current).

  • Do I need Final Expense insurance if I already have life insurance?

Possibly. Final Expense insurance can supplement existing life insurance — especially if your main policy is insufficient to cover funeral or other end-of-life costs. Yes, it may serve as a secondary policy.

  • How quickly are the benefits paid out?

It depends on the insurance company, policy type, whether all premiums were paid, and if all documentation is in order. Some pay benefits in a few days; others may take longer.

  • Is there a waiting period for Final Expense insurance policies?

Some policies have graded benefits in the first 1-2 years (if death is by natural causes) before full benefit applies; others may be full-benefit from day one. It depends on death cause, health rating, carrier. Important to ask when reviewing quotes.

  • How much does Final Expense insurance cost?

The cost depends on your age, health, face amount, and carrier. For example, some resources show typical monthly premiums of $30–$70 for modest coverage, with higher amounts if older or in poorer health.

  • How much coverage should I purchase?

That depends on your goals — funeral/burial costs, any debts, leaving money for loved ones, medical costs. A typical funeral may cost several thousand dollars. A discussion with us can help determine an appropriate face amount based on your budget and needs.

  • Will my premiums increase over time?

With many Final Expense whole-life policies, premiums remain fixed for life (as long as you pay them). That means your coverage cost today locks in future cost.

  • What happens if I stop paying the premiums?

If premiums aren't paid and your policy lapses, you might lose coverage (or the benefit may be reduced). It's critical to keep up with payments so your loved ones receive the intended benefit.

  • How do I get started with Final Expense coverage?

Contact Midwest Division Insurance Agency — we'll walk you through the application, compare carriers, answer health question requirements, and help you select a face amount and premium that works for your budget. Because we're local in the Midwest and specialize in this market, we make the process simple and tailored.
